VideoCacheView – Utility to Extract Videos from the Browser Cache
What do you do when you want to watch an online video? The answer to this question is quite simple: you fire up the browser, visit the site that hosts that video, and then you watch it. But what it if your internet connection goes down for some reason, and you really, really want to watch that video one more time? What do you do in this situation?
Why you do what I always do – turn to software and see if there is an application out there that can lend a helping hand. The app that can prove to be useful in this situation is the Nir Sofer-developed VideoCacheView. If the video is still in the browser cache, this application can help you extract and save that video. This way you can watch that video even if your internet connection goes down.
VideoCacheView works by automatically scanning the cache of Internet Explorer and Mozilla-based Web browsers. The application then presents you with a list of results; a list of videos stored in the browser cache. Then the application lets you take that video out of the cache and store it somewhere on your computer. Or you can play the videos straight from the cache – but you need a FLV player to do so (or a media player that support FLV files).
Before you get VideoCacheView and put it to the test, check out these technical bits and pieces:
Download – the download weighs in at some 130KB, which means it will only take a moment to get VideoCacheView off the web and onto your computer.
Installation – VideoCacheView can be installed on any version of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system, including the latest iteration (at the time of writing this), Windows 7.
Limitations – there are no limitations since VideoCacheView is freeware.

About NirSoft
Nir Sofer is an experienced software developer with extensive knowledge in C++, .NET Framework, Windows API, and Reverse Engineering of undocumented binary formats and encryption algorithms. This software developer offers a collection of useful utilities for Windows users on NirSoft, a site launched back in 2001.
The name of the site is a combo between the developer’s name “Nir” and a part of the word “software” (Nir + software = NirSoft). You can visit Nir Sofer’s NirSoft site here.
